Work Experience Opportunities

Gain real-world experience and kickstart your career.

Our short-term, unpaid work experience placements offer students a chance to explore local government, apply classroom learning in a professional environment, and build valuable workplace skills.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for a placement, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a recognised training program (such as high school, TAFE or university).
  • Have a specific work area in mind which should align with your area of study and/or career pathway.
  • Provide a copy of public liability insurance from your educational institution.

How to Apply

Applying is simple. Complete the Work experience application form and include the following:

  • A cover letter outlining your interest in completing a placement with the Shire.
  • Evidence of public liability insurance coverage from your school or institution.

Work Experience Application Form

Once we receive your application, we’ll forward it to the relevant department for consideration.

Important:
  • Applications must be submitted at least four weeks before your preferred placement date.
  • All applications must go through the People and Development team. Please do not contact individual departments directly.

Placement availability

While we aim to support as many students as possible, placements are limited and depend on staff availability and supervision capacity.
