Planning an event in the Shire
The Shire is committed to supporting events which contribute to our thriving local community. Events are a great way to strengthen community connection and create a sense of place and belonging.
The Shire has a responsibility to assist in ensuring public events are safe and healthy for all patrons to attend. They should also be managed so they have minimal impact on surrounding properties, and be held in accordance with applicable legislation, including the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1911 and the Health (Public Buildings) Regulations 1992.
Event organisers are encouraged to read the Department of Health - Guidelines for Concerts, Events & Gatherings 2022 prior to submitting a Public Event Application form.
What is a Public Event?
A "Public Event" is considered a prearranged gathering of people for a common purpose, that is open to the general public to attend, whether it is free or ticketed, on private land or in a public space. Examples could include festivals, fairs, school fetes, markets, sporting and recreational races or competitions, concerts and other live entertainment performances.
A Public Event Application Form and Guidelines must be submitted for assessment for any event occurring on Shire land open to the general public and/or any event which may require additional approvals relating to food, camping, amusements and rides, noise, electrical, alcohol consumption, facility hire and traffic or road closures.
Private events or gatherings of invite-only guests and is not considered open to the general public, do not require event approval; however, if you are intending on holding your event in or on a Shire-owned venue, then a booking may be required.
