Switch Your Thinking is a local government sustainability initiative founded by the City of Gosnells, City of Armadale and the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale as the South-east Regional Energy Group (SEREG). Switch Your Thinking works together with local governments to develop partnerships with business, industry and residents to encourage energy efficient, water-wise and waste reducing behaviour.

Make the most of free resources

Switch Your Thinking provides an online library of free sustainability resources — including fact sheets, booklets and practical guides — covering topics like energy, water, waste, transport and more. These materials can support you in delivering sustainability projects and can be used to inform community programs, develop educational content or share clear, evidence‑based advice with residents.

Borrow an energy audit kit

Switch Your Thinking has partnered with the Western Australian Government to deliver an Energy Efficiency Pilot Program during 2025-2026. This program is funded by the Western Australian Government’s Department of Energy and Economic Diversification. The program seeks to help residents and small to medium-sized businesses build energy literacy and implement energy efficiency measures. Seventy-four local governments across Western Australia have now partnered with Switch Your Thinking, providing free to loan energy audit kits.

Energy Audit Kits help you understand how your home uses energy by letting you test things like draughts, appliance consumption, water flow and temperatures. Each kit includes tools such as a thermal imaging camera, plug‑in energy monitor, basin flow cup, thermometer and a step‑by‑step instruction manual.

They are available for free loan from more than 139 libraries and Community Resource Centres across 73 local governments in Western Australia. At the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, the Byford Library has two kits available for borrowing.
