Information and resources for electors and candidates.
A Council serves the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale consisting of nine (9) elected members, which cover three (3) wards: North ward, North West ward and South ward.
At a Special Council Meeting held on 30 January 2023, Council resolved to reduce Councillor numbers to a total of six commencing at the 2023 ordinary local government election. Each Ward would have two Councillors plus the Shire President elected at large.
This proposal has been accepted by the Local Government Advisory Board and Minister and was formally gazetted on 30 June 2023.
This means that following the 2023 ordinary local government election the Council will comprise the Shire President and six Councillors split evenly across the three wards.

Elected members are elected to their positions for a four-year term. Local government elections in Western Australia are held every two (2) years. This means that approximately half of the positions on council become available to contest each election.
While voting in a local government election is not compulsory in Western Australia, all electors are strongly encouraged to vote.
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s ordinary elections are administered by the Western Australian Electoral Commission.
