The Unrestricted Burning Period for the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has been brought forward and will come into effect on Thursday, 18 May 2023.

The unrestricted period was originally set to begin on 1 June 2023, but commencement has been accelerated with the early arrival of wet weather providing acceptable conditions for burns to be carried out.

The decision to bring forward the Unrestricted Burning Period was made in consultation with the Shire’s Fire Control Officers and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

Residents are NOT required to obtain a permit when burning during the Unrestricted Burning Period, however it is important to understand your responsibilities during this time.

During the Unrestricted Burning Period:

  • If the Fire Danger Rating is High or above (and/or a Total Fire Ban has been put in place) then no burning is permitted
  • It is your legal responsibility to check the Fire Danger Rating prior to undertaking any burn
  • Health legislation is still applicable

NOTE: Before commencing your burn, you must notify the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Communications Centre on 9395 9209.
