Community feedback sought to help shape Byford’s Town Centre

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale residents are invited to have their say via a community survey and help inform the timeline and arrangement of future infrastructure projects for Byford’s Town Centre.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said with a range of exciting community infrastructure projects planned for Byford, it was important there was a coordinated approach by State and Commonwealth Government stakeholders, private landowners and developers.

“After many years of visioning for Byford’s Town Centre, we have now arrived at the point where the planning for delivery of major projects has commenced,” Cr Rich said.

“This includes the Byford Metronet rail extension and train station, a new Byford Health Hub and a Nature Playground and Water Splash Park.”

While the Shire’s updated Byford Town Centre Structure Plan 2011, adopted by Council in August 2020, provides for layout and land use designations, it doesn’t deliver the finer grain detail for how individual uses and their buildings will be arranged, or how full integration of the Byford Town Centre on both sides of the railway will be achieved.

Cr Rich said these supporting detailed arrangements are important to achieving the intended positive relationship between each use and the adjoining public spaces.

“With feedback from our community, it will help inform our conversations with other stakeholders to achieve a vibrant, connected and safe activity centre for Byford and the broader Shire,” Cr Rich said.

Community members are invited to complete the online survey here: www.yoursaysj.sjshire.wa.gov.au/byfordtogether.

The survey closes 2pm, Friday 15 October.
