In February, the Shire received an application from local resident Karen Manning requesting the Council rename Reserve 23793 after Ted in commemoration of his valuable contribution to land care practices and the community.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Michelle Rich said the Council welcomed Landgate’s decision to approve the Shire’s application on behalf of Ms Manning to re-name the reserve, bounded by Mundijong Road and Duckpond Roads in Oldbury, in Ted’s honour.

Cr Rich said the Love family had strong ties to the local community, which dated back to the 1920s when Ted’s parents emigrated from England and settled in Oldbury.

“Over his life, Ted grew strong connections and commitment to the community,” Cr Rich said.

“As well as working on his family’s dairy farm in Oldbury and completing an agricultural degree, Ted was passionate about the local environment and was an active member of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Land Conservation District Committee, the Shire’s Reserves Working Group and Mundijong Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

“Ted’s experience in environment conservation was significant in supporting the Shire’s Roadside Care volunteers to maintain and enhance reserves along Mundijong Road.

“He also helped enhance the natural environment at the conservation park in his name by creating important floral and habitat linkages between the Darling Scarp and the eastern banks of the Serpentine River.

“Ted also worked with Landcare SJ to install and monitor two cockatoo nest boxes at the park for the endangered and vulnerable species of WA Forest Black Cockatoos.”

The family said they were overwhelmed by the support the community had shown in having Ted’s contribution to the community recognised.

“We would also like to thank Shire staff for their continual efforts in the naming of the reserve in memory of Ted in recognition of the support that he gave to the community,” Ted’s family said.

“We know Ted would not want any fuss or recognition for the volunteering work that he carried out within the community, however this is what made him special.”

Ted passed away in 2015 aged 79 years of age.
