SJ community urged to help Shape our Future

Residents, ratepayers, local business owners and operators, and visitors to the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale are being urged to provide feedback to help shape the 10-year plan for the Shire, as the Shape our Future SJ2033 campaign is launched.

Feedback received during the community engagement phase will directly inform the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan (SCP) 2023-2033 – the blueprint outlining the Shire’s long-term vision, values, aspirations and priorities.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said community feedback was invaluable to ensure community infrastructure and service delivery over the next decade aligned to community values.

“Our last SCP was developed in 2017 and since then our population and demographic data has changed considerably,” Cr Rich said.

“We’ve boomed from a population of 29,021 in 2017 to 37,226 in 2023 – almost a 15% population increase. We’re the fastest growing local government in Western Australia and the sixth fastest growing in Australia so we need to cater our long-term plans to this growth.

“The Shape Our Future campaign is perfect timing to make sure our 10-year plan captures the voices and priorities of our oldest residents, through to our newest ones. We care about creating the best possible future for our community, and to do that we need to hear directly from the people who live, work and play here.”

“With our communities’ feedback and input, we can make sure we create a plan that will deliver positive outcomes for all SJ residents,” Cr Rich said.

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is hosting a number of events throughout March and April where residents, ratepayers and business owners can have their say. These include community workshops, morning teas, pop-up stalls and community events. An online survey is also available at yoursaysj.sjshire.wa.gov.au/sj2033 for those who are pressed for time but still want to have their say.
