The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has teamed up with the Darling Downs Residents Association (DDRA) to improve safety on Thomas Road through the installation of a new fence barrier along the popular Comic Loop South Trail.

The new fence will greatly enhance safety for the many horse riders and nature lovers who walk the trail, as well as vehicles accessing the area.

Previously, the lack of fencing in the heavy traffic area caused hazards with horses regularly getting spooked by passing vehicles.

Covering a 690m stretch, the fencing was partially funded by the State Government and delivered in partnership between the Shire and DDRA, whose volunteers worked hard to prepare the area.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich said the completion of the fence was a significant step forward in improving road safety along Thomas Road.

“The new Comic Loop South trail fence is an excellent example of how a small project can make a big difference in safety, enjoyment, and sustainability,” Cr Rich said.

“I'm grateful for the many volunteers who have generously dedicated their time and effort to make these important changes to improve our community.”

DDRA President Bruce Hilliard said the safety improvements would greatly benefit the local equine community.

“This new fence will help prevent horses from getting out onto Thomas Road or falling into the drain next to the trail,” Mr Hilliard said.

“These types of incidents have happened in the past. The new fence helps to avoid these types of critical safety incidents and makes the trail much more usable.

“We are proud to have collaborated with the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale to deliver this project.”
