Empowering young people will be in focus as the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale celebrates Youth Week with a jam-packed schedule of events and programs kicking off Thursday, 4 April 2024.

Headlined by a hotly anticipated Youth Fest, the week will also include workshops from the popular Skill-Up Program as well as gaming and basketball competitions.

Shire President Rob Coales said Youth Week was a great opportunity to engage with young residents and help foster a sense of community.

“As a Shire we’re proud to champion initiatives that empower the young people within our community,”

“We’re committed to providing young people with the support, opportunities, and resources they need and Youth Week is a chance for us to connect our young residents with service providers and start those conversations.

“I encourage all of our Shire’s young locals to come on down to the Youth Fest event and find out more about what’s on offer for them in our Shire.”

Taking place at Briggs Park on Friday, 12 April, Youth Fest will serve up a vibrant celebration of youth culture, creativity, and camaraderie, providing a safe and inclusive space for young people to express themselves freely and have fun with their friends.

The day will include live performances, interactive exhibits and a series of epic activities all aimed at connecting and empowering young people.

Further to the main event, the Skill-Up Program will continue to help provide SJ’s youth with a clearer pathway into the workforce with Responsible Service of Alcohol training on offer.

The certificate is a key step for the many young people looking to enter the hospitality sector, and is one of several free courses offered as part of the program.

“The Skill-Up Program is a really exciting initiative that’s helping to make the transition from school to the workforce easier on our young adults,” Shire President Coales said.

“I’m proud to be part of a Shire that prioritises and invests in its future generations.”
