More than 20 projects to help reduce the risk of bushfire will be carried out after the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale was successful in receiving a $288,000 grant through the State Government’s Mitigation Activity Fund.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the grant enabled the Shire to carry out the fire mitigation works, which are vital to protecting our community and minimising the risk of a fire emergency.
“More than 95% of our Shire is classified as bushfire prone, so it is crucial we be able to carry out as many mitigation projects as possible prior to every bushfire season,” Cr Rich said.
“The Shire is grateful for this State Government funding, which directly assists us in being proactive in our bushfire management.
Member for Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones said the State Government is pleased to support the Shire to reduce the risk of bushfire.
“Bushfires in WA and in Darling Range are a reality many of us have to face,” Mr Jones said.
“The State Government is supporting the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale with $288,000 in funds for bushfire mitigation, through the State Government’s Mitigation Activity Fund grants.
“The funding will support the Shire’s bushfire mitigation activities, including firebreaks, planned burning, slashing, mowing and fencing.
“I am proud of the McGowan Labor Government’s commitment to investing in bushfire mitigation.
The works are scheduled to be completed before the 2021/22 bushfire season.
