Shire celebrates SJ’s natural beauty as part of WA Tree Festival

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale will celebrate the natural beauty that makes SJ such a unique place to live as part of the WA Tree Festival over the coming months.

Held from 9 April – 9 May 2022, the WA Tree Festival is a joint effort between several councils and community groups which aims to highlight the crucial role trees and other flora play in our local ecosystems.

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is proud to be participating in the festival, with a number of local events being held to celebrate the importance trees in our Shire.

Birds of the Night

  • 9 April 2022
  • 5pm – 7pm
  • Brickwood Reserve, Mead Street, Byford

Experience a unique opportunity to get up close with beautiful owls before heading out into Brickwood Reserve in search of nocturnal critters.

This event showcases the significance of having diverse trees to support local wildlife.

Coffey Road Guided Walk

  • 10am – 11am
  • Coffey Road, Serpentine

Join Landcare SJ as they take you on a guided walk through the Coffey Road Revegetation Project.

The walk will highlight the significance of the project which is converting a reserve from open farmland into a biodiverse habitat for local fauna.

Back to Nature – Jarrahdale Walk Trail

  • Langford Park, Jarrahdale

Join the Jarrahdale Heritage Society as they take you on a guided hike through the Shire’s signature bushland backdrop.

You will be able to learn more about the bush and enjoy a sausage sizzle at the end.

Storytime Under the Tree

The SJ Library Service is taking its usual Storytime event to a nice shady spot at the Mundijong Heritage Community Garden as they join in the WA Tree Festival celebration.

Jarrah Forest Walk

Discover the wonders of Jarrahdale's Northern Jarrah Forest and Timber Milling History with the Jarrahdale Heritage Society on a guided walk.

Free Verge Plant Program Launch and Workshops

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and Landcare SJ will launch the 2022 Free Verge Plant Program. Details to come.

SJ Play Trails

Experience the wonder of the Shire’s iconic trails as SJ Play Trails brings them to life through a series of scavenger hunts you can play on your phone.

Download the Play Trails app and you can head to four different trails locations around the Shire to unlock challenges, solve quiz questions and score points.

SJ Play Trails locations include:

  • Jarrahdale and Gooralong Brood Play Trail, Foster Way, Jarrahdale
  • Mundijong Floral Walk Play Trail, Paterson Street, Mundijong
  • Brickwood Reserve Play Trail, Mead Street, Byford
