The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and the Darling Downs Residents Association (DDRA) have teamed up to upgrade a series of community spaces across the Shire’s northern suburbs.
Jointly funded by the Shire and a State Government Lotterywest grant, the works included creating a new rest area in the Evening Peal Court car park, refurbishing the notice board in the rest area and carrying out upgrades to the Darling Downs Equestrian Park (DDEP).
The new rest area offers locals a shaded space to unwind, with its close proximity to the DDEP improving the overall experience for resident horse riders.

Shire President Rob Coales thanked the DDRA and Member for Darling Range Hugh Jones for supporting these important works.
“The DDRA has been partnering together with Shire staff to deliver crucial upgrades that directly benefit our residents," President Coales said.
“On behalf of the Shire I thank them, Lotterywest and the State Government for their continued dedication to the SJ community.”
This financial year alone the DDRA has contributed over 1300 person hours to implement various projects that enhance safety and usability of the Darling Downs Equestrian Park.
Their efforts include:
• Clearing 76 hectares of trails and reserves of fallen branches and dead trees.
• Mowing and clearing grass to reduce fire risks
• Refurbishing and levelling trails for improved usability for horse riders, walkers, and bicyclists
• Installed a new durable cement floor in the DDRA’s shed thanks to the Shire’s support
• Providing better signage to make the area safer
• Fixing fencing and procuring new jumps for use by the equine community
DDRA President Bruce Hilliard said he was looking forward to delivering even more positive outcomes for the community in the future.
