Access to one of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s main sporting facilities has been greatly enhanced following the construction of a new car park at the Briggs Park Recreation Precinct in Byford.
Built between the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre and Mead Street, the car park has provided 47 new parking bays to the bustling community hub.
Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the addition of parking infrastructure was vital to support the region’s growing community.
“Ensuring adequate parking access at local community facilities is crucial as our population continues to grow,” Cr Rich said.
“Briggs Park is one of the most popular sporting precincts in our Shire, with hundreds of families accessing it every week.
“These works align with the Shire’s goal to create a more connected and accessible community.”
Construction of the car park was carried out by Delta Pty Ltd.
Further to the car park upgrades, the Shire will also carry out improvements to the landscaping and lighting facilities around the Recreation Centre over the coming months.
“These works are part of the Shire’s plan to beautify and activate one of our most important community spaces in Briggs Park,” Cr Rich said.
The car park upgrades were funded through Phase 1 of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie said he was pleased the grant funding was delivering positive outcomes for Serpentine Jarrahdale.
“I’m pleased Morrison Government local government grants are making a practical difference for SJ parents.
“We all know the stress of hunting for a car park when you’re running late to sport, with kids itching to get out and play.
“The extra car park bays will reduce congestion around the recreation centre.
“I’m proud to work with the local community to deliver better facilities in Byford.”
