Delivery of community projects worth $673,030 are about to commence throughout the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale after the Australian Government approved the 13 Shire projects to be delivered through their Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI Program).

Community projects to be delivered include eight new footpaths, new street lighting and traffic speed signs and new car parking at Briggs Park Recreation Precinct.

Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie said the funding allocated to the Shire was part of the Morrison Government’s $500 million investment in the LRCI Program, aimed at supporting local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects.

Mr Hastie said the delivery of community projects played a critical role in responding to the impacts of COVID-19.

“The Morrison Government is directing funding to shires for local projects that will help rebuild our economy from the damage of COVID-19,” Mr Hastie said.

“These are local priorities that will improve roads, footpaths, and make our communities safer.”

Shire President Michelle Rich thanked the Australian Government for the grant funding.

“We know that COVID-19 has impacted businesses and our community, and this funding assists in our local recovery by supporting jobs, while also delivering important projects across our Shire,” Cr Rich said.

“We are pleased to be delivering on community priorities to make our Shire safer, as well as ensuring the community has access to improved facilities.

“New car parking at Briggs Park Recreation Precinct will also benefit the user groups who visit the facility for a range of sporting and community activities.”
