A Total Fire Ban has been declared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) for Monday 2 February 2026, due to forecast extreme fire danger conditions.
In line with this declaration, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has issued a ban on the use or operation of engines, vehicles, plant and machinery likely to cause a bush fire under the Bush Fires Act 1954 and Bush Fires Regulations 1954.
The ban will apply from 10.30am to 11.59pm on Monday 2 February 2026 and covers the entire Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale. The restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of fires starting on a day of extreme fire danger.
Activities NOT permitted during the ban
During the ban period, the following activities are not permitted:

Harvesting operations
All harvesting activities are prohibited.

Off-road use of engines, vehicles, plant or machinery
Any off-road activity for agricultural, business or recreational purposes is banned in paddocks, bushland, uncleared land, or areas with stubble or long grass.
Examples include motorbikes, quad bikes, tractors, excavators, chainsaws, ride-on mowers and generators.

Hot works
Welding, grinding or cutting metal is prohibited unless undertaken in a designated area that meets the requirements of the Bush Fires Regulations 1954, including appropriate fire prevention measures.
Activities permitted during the ban
The following activities may continue, provided all prescribed conditions are met:

Vehicle use on gazetted roads and cleared access areas
Vehicles may be used on gazetted roads, lanes, private roads, yards or other cleared access or parking areas for residential, farming or business premises, where flammable material has been adequately cleared.

Emergency situations
Vehicles may be used where necessary to prevent an immediate and serious risk to the health or safety of a person or livestock, provided all reasonable precautions are taken to prevent a bush fire.

Essential services urgent works
Off-road activities required for urgent repair or maintenance of essential services may continue. This includes water supply, sewerage or drainage, electricity or gas, telecommunications, public transport and rubbish collection or disposal services. All fire safety requirements must be complied with.
Review of the ban
The ban will be reviewed at 11.59pm on Monday 2 February 2026, and further advice may be issued if conditions change.
Residents are urged to take all fire warnings seriously, comply with the Total Fire Ban, and remain alert to local conditions.
