Help grow a greener Shire by sponsoring the planting of a native tree in one of our local public spaces.

Our Sponsor-a-Tree program gives residents the opportunity to contribute to local greening, support biodiversity and help increase canopy coverage across the district. You might choose to sponsor a tree to remember a loved one, mark a special occasion, or simply make a positive contribution to the local environment.

How it works

Residents can apply to sponsor one or more trees through the Shire’s online application form.

Each sponsored tree costs $300, which contributes to the supply, planting and establishment of the tree. Once your application is approved, the Shire will issue an invoice. Your tree will be ordered once payment has been received.

Applications close each year on 31 March, with trees generally planted during the following winter as part of the Shire’s annual planting program.

Timeline

The Sponsor-a-Tree process follows an annual schedule to align with the Shire’s seasonal planting program. It is likely to take 15 - 18 months from when applications close each year for your tree to be planted.

This ensures we can order the correct number of trees to be grown and then plant them at a size and time of year when they are more likely to survive.

Where trees can be planted

Sponsored trees are planted in designated public reserves where suitable planting conditions and maintenance access are available.

Applicants can nominate a preferred townsite from the following locations:

  • Byford – Gallipoli Avenue Reserve
  • Mundijong – Davey Road Reserve
  • Serpentine – Clem Kentish Reserve
  • Jarrahdale – King Jarrah Circle Reserve

The exact planting location will be determined by the Shire’s Operations team.

 

Available tree species

Applicants can nominate their preferred tree species from a selection of local native trees:

  • Wandoo (Eucalyptus wandoo)
  • Paperbark (Melaleuca preissiana)
  • Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata)
  • Salmon-barked white gum (Eucalyptus lane-poolei)

If your preferred species is not suitable for the selected location, the Shire may ask you to choose an alternative.

Recognition

Each sponsored tree will include a Shire-provided plaque acknowledging the sponsor’s generosity. Plaques will include the sponsor’s first name only.

Sponsors will also receive a personalised certificate after planting, and the location of the tree will be provided once planting is complete.

Maintenance

The Shire will maintain sponsored trees as part of its regular parks and reserves maintenance program. If a sponsored tree or plaque is damaged, vandalised or does not survive, the Shire will arrange a replacement (at no cost to the sponsor) at the earliest opportunity.

Please note that additional furniture, decorations or personal items cannot be placed around sponsored trees.

Apply to sponsor a tree

To sponsor a tree, complete the online application form and provide:

  • your contact details
  • your preferred tree species
  • how many trees you would like to sponsor
  • your preferred planting location
  • the first name to appear on the plaque.

Applications close 31 March each year.
