The Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale invites community members to be part of something meaningful through the Community Cookbook, delivered as part of the Save More, Waste Less project, co-funded by the Waste Authority. This initiative will run from May 2026 through to November 2026.
We are calling on residents to share their favourite original recipes that make the most of everyday ingredients while helping to reduce kitchen and food waste. We encourage creative thinking—using whole ingredients, including often-discarded parts, and finding smart ways to turn leftovers into something new, or identify ingredients suitable for composting. Each submission must include at least one practical tip showing how an ingredient can be reused in another dish. For example, lemon juice used in a recipe could be followed by a suggestion to use the peel in a dessert such as lemon pie.
To help spark ideas, the Shire’s social media channels will regularly share inspiration, tips, and simple waste-reduction ideas throughout the program.
Selected recipes will be featured in a professionally produced printed Community Cookbook, celebrating the creativity and resourcefulness of our community. The compilation and editing process will take place in October 2026, with printed copies expected to be distributed in November 2026, including to contributors.
To recognise and reward participation, eligible contributors who submit innovative, waste-conscious recipes may be selected to receive one of ten $20 Coles Group gift cards to help purchase ingredients, or one of three $50 Bunnings Warehouse gift cards to support the creation or improvement of home composting systems, including tools and equipment.
Join us in sharing your ideas, reducing food waste, and inspiring others—one recipe at a time. By participating, you agree to the Terms and Conditions of the program.
