Purpose

Provides strategic advice to Council on food security, local agriculture and supply-chain resilience.

Members help shape policy, planning and community initiatives to ensure local food systems remain viable.

How the group works

The group collaborates on projects that promote sustainable farming, community gardens, market access and land protection. It provides evidence-informed recommendations to Council and fosters partnerships across the community.

Meetings: generally held quarterly or as required. Papers are published on this page when available.

Primary objectives

  • Improve access to fresh, nutritious and locally produced food.
  • Protect and sustainably manage peri-urban agricultural land.
  • Support emerging and established local food producers.
  • Increase community awareness and participation in food initiatives.
  • Integrate planning and policy for food system resilience.
  • Identify barriers and opportunities in local food supply chains.
