Eddie the Bull’s Water Trough

Currently located along the path at The Pavilion Park, The Brook at Byford, this water trough once sat on land owned by the Lovegrove family.

Historical information

Eddie was a prize-winning Friesian Bull who had a paddock here in the late 1940s.

Physical description

The trough is made of brick, with an internal render. It’s possible the bricks were made at the brickworks that were once here – Cardup Brick Plant (1903-present) or State Brickworks (1913-1961). However, according to oral histories, reusing bricks from old buildings was a common practice by locals, as was firing their own bricks at home.

Present day

Today, Eddie’s water trough contributes to the interest of this pleasant walk along the brook.
