Sustainable living and sensible recycling have been in the spotlight at the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale since the 2023 SJ Plastic Free Living Program was launched in March.

Free Take-Home Products for Workshop Attendees

More than ten educational workshops have been held, including home composting trials, sustainable living sessions and arts and crafts activities. Twelve more workshops are rolling out over the coming weeks with free take-home products for workshop attendees, including compost bins, worm farms, and modern cloth nappies (available on the Shire’s website).

SJ Plastic Free Living Program Encourages Waste Reduction

The SJ Plastic Free Living Program is designed to show locals how to reduce waste in their homes. The program is funded by a $19,908 Waste Sorted grant from the Waste Authority and is delivered by the Shire in partnership with SJ Food and Farm Alliance and the SJ Community Resource Centre.

Shire invites the community to Plastic Free Living Forum

The program will wrap up with the Plastic Free Forum held at the Civic Centre, Paterson Street, Mundijong, on 1 July 2022. The forum will kick off Plastic Free July in the Shire, including various waste education demonstrations and giveaways. Local market stalls will also showcase plastic-free products at the event.
