Tree Retention Plan

The purpose of Tree Retention Plan is to protect existing trees and where this is not possible to require either replacement of the trees or the payment to the Shire to replace those trees in a suitable area in the locality of the development. It outlines strategies and requirements to preserve existing trees during development or construction projects. These plans aim to balance development needs with the environmental, social, and economic benefits that trees provide, such as improving air quality, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and enhancing the overall landscape.

The objectives of the Tree Retention Plan are:

  • To ensure a survey is completed before subdivision that shows which trees will be retained and which will need to be removed and revegetated elsewhere, providing the basis for a Revegetation Management Plan
  • To provide a process to ensure that where trees that must be removed and cannot be replaced, that a financial contribution can be made to allow the Shire to plant replacement trees near the subdivision
