Public Notice: Long-Term Temporary Road Closure - Orton Road, Oakford

Published on Thursday, 4 September 2025 at 2:03:29 PM

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 requirements for long-term temporary road closures the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale advises that Orton Road will be closed between King Road and Kargotich Road, Oakford to allow the Water Corporation to replace Bridge 187.

Closure details

  • Location: Orton Road, between King Road and Kargotich Road
  • Dates: 20 October 2025 to 24 April 2026 (weather permitting)

Why the bridge is being replaced

Bridge 187 currently has a 16-tonne load limit, which restricts heavy vehicles and raises safety concerns. Replacing the bridge will restore full load capacity, improve safety and support future growth in the area. The project is jointly funded by the Water Corporation and the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program.

Access during works

  • Detours will be in place for through traffic.
  • Residents, property owners and local businesses within the closed section will still have
    access.
  • A barrier will be installed at the bridge, so crossing at that point won’t be possible.
  • At times, access may be limited for short periods during critical works. The Water Corporation’s contractor will give advance notice if this happens.

Other information

  • Traffic management will be in place to keep everyone safe and reduce delays as much
    as possible.
  • Rubbish collection will continue as usual.

From September 2026, it is currently proposed that the single lane bridge on Orton Road between Northerly Lane and Bullock Drive will also be replaced by Water Corporation, subject to final approvals. Final confirmation and details will be provided closer to that time.
