The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is calling for nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Community Awards, which celebrate residents who go above and beyond for the SJ community.
These awards shine a spotlight on the local role models who make a real difference, whether through volunteering, youth programs, supporting seniors, or showing commitment to the community in daily life.
The Clem Kentish Community Service Award is the Shire’s highest honour, recognising residents who have given more than 20 years of service and contributed to multiple committees or initiatives in the Shire.
The Australia Day Community Awards also include four categories as part of the Auspire Australia Day WA Community Citizen of the Year Awards, a program presented by local governments across the State:
- Citizen of the Year
- Citizen of the Year - Senior
- Citizen of the Year - Youth
- Active Citizenship (Group or Event)
Nominations for all award categories close on Friday 31 October 2025, with winners announced at the Australia Day ceremony on 26 January 2026. For eligibility criteria and how to nominate, please visit http://www.sjshire.wa.gov.au/australiadayawards
Comments attributable to Shire President Rob Coales
“Serpentine Jarrahdale is full of people who show up for each other every day, whether it’s by volunteering, mentoring, leading local groups or supporting their neighbours.
“These awards recognise these people. These are the quiet heroes who make our Shire caring, stronger and more connected.
“They do not seek the spotlight, but their contributions shape the character and resilience of our unique Shire.
“I encourage residents to think of the quiet heroes around them and nominate someone who has helped make SJ a welcoming community where everyone feels at home.”
