The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s Countdown to Christmas is officially on, and this year the festive fun is turned all the way up.
First out of Santa’s workshop is the iconic SJ Christmas Lights Competition. It is the first sleigh off the rank, with registrations now open for anyone ready to light up their street.
The free to enter competition is now in its fourth year, with cash prizes for the brightest and best displays. Winners will be announced on Friday 19 December, so get glowing!
And of course, Christmas in SJ would not be Christmas without the legendary SJ Street Festival. Paterson Street in Mundijong will burst into life on Friday 5 December with Christmas lights, live music, performers and that unmistakable festive buzz that brings our community together.
But wait, there’s more. Start marking up your advent calendar with these extra festive favourites:
- Byford Carols at Briggs Park, Byford on Saturday 6 December
- Centrepoint Celebration of Christmas at Kalimna Oval, Byford on Saturday 13 December
- Youth Christmas Party at Briggs Park, Byford on Thursday 18 December
- Homelessness We Care Christmas Dinner at Briggs Park, Byford, on Friday 19 December
Over at the library in Byford, there’s plenty of Christmas magic including Letters to Santa and special Christmas Story Times. Plus, keep an ear out for the sirens and the smiles as SJ’s volunteer firies bring the joy with their annual lolly runs on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December.

The Christmas Street Festival is a free family event proudly supported by Mundi Estate, Byford and Districts Community Bank, and Doral.

“Our Countdown to Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year because it shows exactly what makes SJ such a special place.
“We’ve got a generous, connected and welcoming community that loves coming together to celebrate.
“Whether you’re lighting up your home, singing at the Byford Carols or enjoying the Street Festival, I hope everyone across SJ feels the joy of the season and the pride we all share in this amazing place.
“At this time of year, I encourage everyone to take a moment to check in on neighbours, friends and anyone who might need a bit of extra support and make sure they’re going alright.
“Together we’ll make sure that the Shire is a welcoming community where everyone feels at home.”
