There’s sew much good news for the Shire’s creative community, with the Mundijong Arts and Crafts Group officially signing a new long-term lease to stay at Old Mundijong Railway Station on Paterson Street.
The group has been stitching themselves into the heart of Mundijong since 2002 when they first began using the building, part of the historic old town centre.
Under the new agreement, the talented makers will continue to call the space home until at least October 2029, giving them plenty more time to knit, sew and cultivate community connections.
Since forming in 1989, the tight-knit group has grown to 25 regulars who meet at least twice a week to sew, chat and create.
But their creativity goes far beyond the craft table. These dedicated volunteers donate their handmade works to Western Australian charity Crisis Care and other worthy causes.
So far, they’ve donated more than 1,470 quilts, along with children’s pyjamas, soft toys, beanies and scarves. One stitch at a time, they’re warming lives across WA.
Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed locally. Earlier this year, the group received the Shire’s Australia Day Group Award for their outstanding community contribution.
The group is run by Group President Jan Johnson. Find out more here
