The future of Mundijong is looking bright, with the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale engaging with local residents, landowners and businesses on the development of a Precinct Structure Plan (PSP).
The first of two open sessions took place on 5 November, with around 30 people from the Mundijong business and residential community taking part.
Another session is planned for Saturday, 8 November, at the Shire’s Civic Centre building in Mundijong.
The new plan will take in Mundijong’s historic town centre, heritage buildings along Paterson Street, the residential area to the west and the Shire administration buildings.
Community feedback will be invited on topics including residential density, character and built form, streetscapes and civic and public spaces.
This is the first stage of engagement and other opportunities will be made for residents to have their say, as the plan is developed.
The Shire is now the fastest growing local government area in Western Australia, and the third in the nation, with Mundijong just behind Byford as its fastest growing suburb. The population of Mundijong is set to reach 58,000 by 2051.
The Mundijong PSP will guide future growth and development in Mundijong, ensuring that rapid growth is managed in a sustainable way.
Shire President Rob Coales said that the development of a plan for Mundijong, in partnership with local businesses and residents, was great news for the local area, and the Shire more broadly.
“Mundijong is facing various challenges because of rapid growth,” President Coales said.
“It’s a real balancing act trying to achieve sustainable development and infrastructure outcomes, while attracting economic and business development and enabling the town to flourish.
“it’s an exciting time to be at the Shire, and with the development of this plan we can make sure that rapid growth is managed for the benefit of current and future generations of Mundijong residents.”
