Mundijong Road Will Be Temporarily Closed

Mundijong Road will be temporarily closed between Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street from Saturday 11 July to December 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The closure is required to facilitate the construction of the new Tonkin Highway and Mundijong Road roundabout, including associated earthworks, drainage, pavement construction and tie-in works. As the new roundabout ties into the existing Mundijong Road alignment, this section of road must be closed to enable the works to be completed safely and efficiently.

During the closure period, Mundijong Road will be closed between Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street. While this section of road will be inaccessible to through traffic, Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street will remain open. Access to Lampiter Drive will be maintained via Dairy Link.

To assist with traffic management and flow during the closure, the THETRU project team will implement a temporary roundabout at the intersection of Bishop Road and Kargotich Road. In addition, trucks and heavy vehicles exceeding 13 metres in length will be directed to use Kargotich Road and Thomas Road or South Western Highway, avoiding local roads wherever practicable.

Recognising the importance of maintaining emergency response capability during the closure, the Tonkin Extension Alliance has also implemented a number of measures in consultation with emergency services, including:

  • The temporary roundabout at Bishop Road and Kargotich Road to improve vehicle movements and emergency access.
  • Use of Scott Road as an emergency access route when development associated works road closures are not in place.
  • During times when Scott Road is not available, the project team will liaise directly with Mundijong Police to facilitate emergency access through the construction site, where operationally possible.
  • Randell Road may be utilised by emergency services on an as-needed basis. This route will not be signposted as part of the public detour network and is intended for occasional emergency use only.

Please refer to the detour map below for details of the approved traffic route.
