Time to find a bargain: SJ Reuse Shop opens doors to customers

Residents are invited to come and find a bargain from Saturday, 1 October 2022 when the SJ Reuse Shop opens to customers.

Located at the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre, the SJ Reuse Shop will feature an array of items from furniture to clothing, bikes, kitchenware, fishing rods, golf clubs and much more.

But low prices and quirky items aren’t the only upside, with the shop set to be a great benefit to our local environment.

An initiative of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, the shop will allow locals to recycle their pre-loved items by giving them a new lease on life and help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the SJ Reuse Shop would be a great benefit to both the environment and the community.

“By 2024 the Shire aims to be recycling and reusing at least 65% of its waste, a goal outlined in our Waste Management Strategy,” Cr Rich said.

“Currently 40% of waste received at the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre is diverted from landfill for recycling, and the SJ Reuse Shop will be a significant contributor in helping us achieve our overall goal.

“The shop will also be a wonderful community asset, offering affordable and interesting items to locals.”

The SJ Reuse Shop will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, 9am – 3pm.

A Swap N Shop will also be available for children’s items including clothes, books and toys, with customers able to bring in similar items and swap them for free.
