Public art opportunity: Create a statement piece for Byford Skate Park

Published on Friday, 23 May 2025 at 4:22:21 PM

Calling all creatives! We’re looking to commission an experienced artist to help bring the upgraded Byford Skate Park to life with a vibrant new public art piece.

Set to wrap around an exterior wall just outside our Youth Centre on Mead Street, this artwork will become a standout feature of the revitalised skate park—a place where young people come to connect, move, and have fun.

Major upgrade works kick off in late May, with a fresh new look—including a bigger skateable area, cool new elements, better lighting, more seating, and improvements across the whole precinct—set to be unveiled by September 2025.

This public art piece will reflect themes of belonging and playfulness, offering a creative expression of a thriving and healthy community. Artists are encouraged to submit proposals that not only bring visual impact to the area but also tell a story of connection, movement and joy.

This is your chance to create a lasting impression and help shape a space that will inspire locals and visitors alike for years to come.

How to apply

Interested artists are encouraged to download and review the Design Brief carefully before preparing their proposal.

Submissions should be emailed to Jessica Farmer (Public Events & Arts Officer) at info@sjshire.wa.gov.au
