Road users in SJ are again being reminded of equine road safety, with the launch of the Shire’s equine road safety campaign for 2025.
‘Pass Wide and Slow’ is this year’s message, providing a reminder to keep the roads safe for everyone – whether they’re driving, cycling, walking, or riding.
This year’s ‘Pass Wide and Slow’ campaign is being launched as part of Road Safety Week in May 2025, reinforcing the importance of cautious and responsible road use.
The campaign features SJ local horse rider Claire and her horse Blaze, who will help spread the message throughout May and beyond.
Their involvement highlights the importance of mutual respect and caution when sharing the road with horses.
Shire President Rob Coales said horses are an important part of our community, and it’s important that all road users understand how to safely share the road with them.
“It’s easy for horses to get spooked by passing cars, motorbikes, eRideables and even bicycles and pedestrians, no matter how experienced their rider may be,” President Coales said.
“By slowing down and giving horses plenty of space, we can prevent accidents and keep everyone safe.”
As part of the campaign, free car bumper stickers and horse float stickers will be available to residents while supplies last.
Residents are encouraged to subscribe to the Shire’s newsletter and follow its social media channels to stay informed about campaign updates and other important community initiatives.
