Kargotich and Orton Roads set to reopen on Sunday

Upgrades to Kargotich and Orton Roads are now complete, marking a major step forward in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s Hypergrowth Roads Program.

The roads will reopen on Sunday, 15 June, with line marking set to take place by Main Roads at a later date.

The milestone is part of a broader package of essential road infrastructure works, including substantial upgrades to Soldiers Road, and are critical to improving safety, connectivity and capacity across the Shire.

Program-wide works have included pavement rehabilitation, resurfacing and road widening, all made possible through $18 million in State Government funding.

A further $17 million in State Government funding, announced ahead of the 2025 State Election, will ensure the continued delivery of the Hypergrowth Roads Program.

This investment will support better roads, improve liveability and strengthen the long-term resilience of the Shire’s local transport network.

“It’s fantastic to see my $18 million election commitment for key road safety improvements be put to good use.

“These upgrades to Kargotich and Orton Roads will help to prime the area for future growth and the realisation of two key State Government infrastructure projects – the Tonkin Highway Extension and Westport.

“And I’m proud that the Cook Labor Government is continuing to prioritise delivery of local funding for vital hypergrowth road infrastructure.”

Comments attributable to Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Rob Coales

“The reopening of Kargotich and Orton Roads is a landmark moment for our community, and yet another example of the Shire delivering on a major infrastructure project.

“As the fastest growing local government in WA, and the third fastest in Australia, it’s essential that we ensure our local roads can cope with the demands of more motorists and freight vehicles.

“These upgrades will improve safety and future proof the roads for a few more years, enhancing liveability.

“Thank you to the SJ community, which has shown tremendous patience while these works have taken place.

“Thanks also to the State Government, in particular Hugh Jones MLA our local member, who has continued to show support for the Shire’s projects in the face of tremendous growth.”
