The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Emergency Services team paid a visit to the Whitby community to chat all things bushfire preparation at a special barbecue event on Friday, 24 November 2023.
Following a recent fire event at the Whitby Estate in May, the Shire has worked hard alongside locals in the area to ensure residents and their properties are bushfire ready.
Part of this effort has been to install directional fire exit signage on Haywire Avenue to make the exit identifiable if the gate is open.
The Shire has also installed a sign on the road adjacent to Whitby Playground clearly identifying exit routes in case of an emergency.
The Whitby Estate fire in May was contained and controlled thanks to emergency service volunteers from the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Bush Fire Brigades and neighbouring local governments. Their efforts limited the impact to 28 hectares of land.
With the summer months almost here, it’s vital that all Shire residents work together to protect their homes, families and the Shire’s natural environment.
