A Growing Success: Free Verge Plants Sprout Again in SJ

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s popular free verge plant program is up and running for 2025.

The program gives Shire residents the opportunity to apply for up to 10 free plants, as part of creating and maintaining a waterwise verge.

The program has been launched as the Shire received the news that it had again been endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council.

The award means that the Shire has been recognised for its outstanding leadership in sustainable water management by the State Government’s Waterwise Council Program.

Shire President Rob Coales said that he was proud that the Shire had retained its Gold Waterwise Council status.

“The Shire is a longstanding member of the Waterwise Council Program, and has worked hard to retain its gold status since 2019,” President Coales said.

“Our free verge plant program is part of our efforts to support the Shire’s unique environment, and I encourage residents to look into applying for this, and to explore other initiatives that keep SJ healthy and beautiful.”

The Shire runs its free verge plant program every year in partnership with Landcare SJ. It is co-funded by the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Greening Scheme.

Successful applicants can pick up their plants on 12 July, from the SJ Landcare Centre on Paterson Street, Mundijong.
