Japanese Ink Painting for Kids (Ages 6 to 12)

Wednesday 18th March 2026

Discover the beauty and mindfulness of Japanese Ink Painting (Sumi-e) in this meditative and creative workshop at Byford Library to celebrate Harmony Week. Children will be introduced to the traditional techniques that make this art form both expressive and deeply contemplative.

What You’ll Experience:

  • Ink Preparation – Learn how to prepare ink and create a range of tones for depth, balance, and contrast.

  • Brush Techniques – Practice traditional brushstrokes that emphasize elegance, control, and intentional movement.

  • Nature-Inspired Art – Observe natural elements and translate your personal interpretation into ink on paper.

  • Mindful Creativity – Engage in a calming, meditative process that encourages presence, focus, and self-expression.

This hands-on workshop offers a meaningful way to connect with Japanese culture while developing artistic skills and experiencing the harmony of simplicity and expression.
