Published on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 at 4:07:03 PM
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons to join its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC), including to fill the positions of Presiding and Deputy Presiding Members. The Committee will be established following the October 2025 Local Government Elections.
The ARIC will meet at least four times per year and support the Council in fulfilling its governance and oversight responsibilities related to financial reporting, risk management and audit functions in compliance with the Local Government Act 1995 (the Act) and associated regulations. A fee will be paid to independent members as permitted under the Act, in accordance with the maximum determined by the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal. The current maximum is $450 per meeting.
Recent Legislative Changes
Amendments to the Act are likely to come into effective following the October 2025 Local Government Elections that will change the role and functions of the Shire’s Audit Committee (currently established as the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee). The Shire is proactively implementing the reforms by presenting amended Terms of Reference post the October election to change the name of the current Committee to the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee and requiring an independent Presiding Member and deputy Presiding Member. More information on the proposed reforms can be found here: Fact sheet: Reforms to governance and committees
