Expansion of SJ Recreation Centre and Briggs Park Master Plan

Project Overview

The SJ Community Recreation Centre is the community hub for Byford, and the home for indoor community sport and recreation.

The redevelopment of the SJ Community Recreation Centre will:

• Deliver four compliant indoor basketball courts.

• Provide additional space for other court sports such as netball and futsal.

• Provide contemporary change facilities for all genders.

• Provide larger gymnasium and fitness rooms to cater for demand.

• Deliver enhanced out-of-school-care facilities.

At the 2025 election we were successful in securing $10 million from the WA Labor Party towards the redevelopment.

However, we will continue to advocate for the rest of the cost of the project, in total $43.77 million. This will help realise our community’s vision for a modern, contemporary recreation centre, which will provide a regional service for now and the future.

What’s Happening Now?

Two expansion options for the SJ Community Recreation Centre were presented to Council in September 2024.
