The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is inviting passionate locals and industry experts to join a new Advisory Group shaping the future of food, agriculture and sustainability in the region.

The newly established Food Security and Peri-Urban Agriculture Advisory Group will bring together community members and industry experts to share advice and ideas with Council on how to support farming, improve access to fresh food, and plan for a sustainable future.

Shire President Rob Coales encouraged community members with an interest or experience in farming, land use, water access, food systems, or community health to consider applying.

“We’re incredibly proud of our strong agricultural heritage here in the Shire, and we know how important it is to protect and grow that legacy,” President Coales said.

“This Advisory Group will give community members a real voice in how we plan for food security and support local farming as our region continues to grow. Whether you're a producer, a local business owner, or someone with a keen interest in sustainable food systems, we’d love you to register to be part of this important new advisory group.”

“Our goal is to ensure future planning reflects local knowledge and supports a strong, healthy and sustainable food system for generations to come,” President Coales said.

The Group will help guide evidence-based decision-making on key issues such as land use planning, water security, economic diversification, supply chain resilience, and community wellbeing. Its formation recognises the unique challenges and opportunities that come with the Shire’s position as the fastest growing local government in Western Australia.

Expressions of interest are now open for community members who would like to be part of this exciting initiative. All registrations will be considered before 12 members are selected to represent the group.
