Cooking in Bulk

Friday 12th June 2026

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is pleased to once again host Nutritionist Nicole Ingram from Grow Cook Eat WA for this practical 2-hour hands-on workshop, proudly co-funded by the Waste Authority.

“Cooking in Bulk” is a skills-based session focused on helping participants build confidence in preparing affordable, nutritious meals in advance. The workshop explores the principles of batch cooking and meal preparation, with a strong emphasis on reducing food waste, improving household efficiency, and making everyday cooking more manageable.

Participants will learn how to plan meals effectively, shop strategically to maximise value, and safely store and freeze food to extend its shelf life. The session will also highlight practical techniques for preparing versatile base ingredients that can be used across multiple meals, helping to reduce cooking time during busy weeks. In addition to developing planning and preparation skills, participants will actively take part in cooking a selection of recipes using bulk ingredients.

These dishes will be shared and enjoyed together as a communal lunch, providing an opportunity to experience the benefits of bulk cooking first-hand. This workshop is ideal for individuals and households seeking to simplify mealtimes, reduce food costs and waste, and adopt more sustainable, time-efficient cooking practices.
