The Women's Walk
Friday 17th October 2025 - Friday 31st October 2025
Walking is one of the simplest ways to lift your mood and ease stress. Research shows that a moderate-intensity walk can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and improve our overall feeling of well-being (Sharma et al., 2021).
Walking works in powerful ways:
💫 Releases “feel-good” chemicals: walking triggers endorphins, dopamine and serotonin, helping lift mood and ease depression.
🌤️ Reduces stress hormones: even a 20–30 minute walk can lower cortisol, the hormone linked to stress.
🧠 Boosts brain function: walking increases blood flow to the brain, improving memory, focus, and thinking speed.
Walking groups were the focus of a study by Kassavou et al., in 2013. This study found that walking together not only improved physical health but also supported social well being — which means improving our sense of connection, support, belonging (feeling accepted and included), and feeling valued within a community. Therefore, improving an individual's self-esteem and confidence, which can spread out into other areas of their life!
