Construction noise during permitted hours

Construction work is permitted between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays). Any work outside of these hours requires approval from the Shire.

Construction noise may include activities such as power tools, excavation, installation and demolition.

Actions you can take

  • Speak with the workers on site to make them aware of the issue
  • Contact the building company managing the site and ask them to investigate and respond
  • If the issue continues, contact our Environmental Health Team on (08) 9526 1111 or info@sjshire.wa.gov.au

Out‑of‑hours construction work

Construction work outside the permitted hours requires approval from the Shire. Applications are assessed by our Environmental Health Officers and may include review of a Noise Management Plan.

Noise and Vibration Management Plans

If you are planning works that may generate significant noise or vibration, you must submit a Construction Noise and Vibration Management Plan for approval before works begin.

This applies to works that may impact surrounding properties.

Requirements

  • Australian Standard 2436:2010 – Guide to noise and vibration control on construction, demolition and maintenance sites
  • Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997

A Dust Management Plan may also be required depending on the nature of the works.
