The State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) last week dismissed a proposal to extract 50,000 kilolitres of groundwater from Lots 13 and 14 Nettleton Road, Karrakup, for the purposes of off-site processing, bottling and commercial sale.

This follows the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s refusal of the development application (DA) in February 2022. The Shire’s refusal was based on the extraction of groundwater being inconsistent with the applicable planning framework including the relevant zoning objectives, as well as a number of State planning policies.

The application received a number of community submissions, raising various planning concerns. These concerns formed part of the overall merits-based planning assessment of the application, which was reported to Council in February 2022.
