The reallocation of $1.34m in State Government Election Commitment funding via the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries means that thrill seekers in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale are set to get a dynamic new pump track.
It will be constructed at Briggs Park, Byford, and will deliver a main track as well as a jump line for more experienced riders.
Serpentine Jarrahdale Council gave the go-ahead for the pump track’s construction at June’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
The pump track concept received overwhelming support from residents during community engagement, with 76% of the 286 residents who responded in support of the project.
It is anticipated to be completed by October 2025.
A pump track is a looped sequence of rollers for bike riders, maximising momentum so high speeds can be reached with minimal pedalling.
It can also be used by skateboarders and may be suitable for wheelchair users.
Member for Darling Range Hugh Jones MLA said:
“This reallocation of $1.34m in State Government funding via the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries towards a new pump track at Briggs Park is great news for our fast-growing community.
“It responds to our community’s need for new and exciting recreational and social opportunities, for all ages and skill levels, right on our doorstep.”
Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Rob Coales said:
“This will be the Shire’s first dedicated pump track and will provide the Shire’s youth with the opportunity to get out, and get active with their bikes, skateboards and scooters.
“It’s fantastic that the Minister for Sport and Recreation, David Templeman, has approved the reallocated of this election commitment funding, which will add to the Shire’s liveability.
“The Shire thanks the State Government, including Member for Darling Range Hugh Jones, for its continued support for the development of Shire facilities in the face of a tremendous population surge.”
