Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and Tonkin Highway Extension and Thomas Road Upgrade | Proposed Temporary Road Closure – Abernethy Road, between Kargotich Road and Kardan Boulevard and Timbrel Road, between Abernethy Road and north of Stockmans Close.

In accordance with Section 3.50 of the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale gives notice of the following proposed temporary road closures.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale works

The Shire proposes to temporarily close Abernethy Road between Kargotich Road and Timbrel Road from Monday, 19 October 2026 until mid-December 2026.

The closure is required to allow the Shire to undertake pavement rehabilitation and road upgrade works on Abernethy Road, west of Timbrel Road.

Tonkin Highway Extension and Thomas Road Upgrade works

To coordinate with the Shire’s closure and minimise impacts at a later date, the Tonkin Extension Alliance also proposes to temporarily close:

• Abernethy Road between Timbrel Road and Kardan Boulevard; and
• Timbrel Road between Abernethy Road and north of Stockmans Close.

These closures are proposed to be in place from Monday, 19 October 2026 until approximately late-January 2027.

During the closure, the Tonkin Extension Alliance will construct the new road tie-ins associated with the realignment of Abernethy Road and the new Timbrel Road roundabout.

Timbrel Road closure

During the closure of Abernethy Road, a proposed temporary closure of Timbrel Road north of Orton Road is anticipated from 3 November 2026 to approximately late-January 2027 to allow the Tonkin Extension Alliance to complete the Orton Road tie-ins to Timbrel Road. These works are important to maintain connectivity in the area during future stages of the Orton Road and Tonkin Highway intersection build

The closures will commence following the reopening of Orton Road, west of Timbrel Road.

Property access

The following property access arrangements are proposed:

• Access to properties north of Abernethy Road, including Devon Court and Charolais Court, will be maintained via the proposed Jersey Road detour.
• Access to properties south of Abernethy Road, including Stockmans Close and Bullock Drive, will be maintained via the proposed Orton Road detour.
• Access to properties on Abernethy Road, west of Timbrel Road, including Mount Eden Lane and Stadamy Street, will be through the Shire’s construction site.
• Access to Byford Meadows Drive will be maintained via the proposed detour route at Brahman Drive.

Please allow additional travel time and follow all signage. Construction dates may be subject to change due to weather, approvals and site conditions. Any significant changes will be communicated in advance.

Bushfire safety and emergency response are key considerations in planning the closures. The Shire and project team are working with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to ensure emergency access routes are maintained during construction.
