Spring has arrived, bringing warmer weather, blooming wildflowers and plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy everything Serpentine Jarrahdale has to offer.
Whether you're looking for a family day out, a new trail to explore, a local market to visit or a relaxing spot for lunch, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the season.
Explore SJ's trails
From family-friendly walks and nature play experiences to horse riding and mountain biking adventures, SJ's trail network offers something for everyone.
If you're exploring with children, try one of the Shire's interactive SJ Play Trails. Located across Jarrahdale, Mundijong, Whitby, Byford and Darling Downs, the trails use the Nature Play WA app to turn a walk into a fun adventure filled with challenges, clues and discoveries. For those looking to venture further, explore the iconic Kitty's Gorge Trail, wander Jarrahdale's historic timber and railway trails, enjoy horse riding through the Darling Range or discover the many bushland trails and reserves found throughout the Shire. Mountain bike enthusiasts can also head to Langford Park, one of Western Australia's premier riding destinations, featuring a network of trails suitable for riders of varying skill levels. With WA Bike Month taking place in October, there's no better time to dust off the bike and hit the trails.
Spring is also one of the best times to experience SJ's natural beauty, with wildflowers beginning to bloom across reserves, trails and bushland areas throughout the region.
Pack a picnic
Spring is one of the best times of year to enjoy a picnic outdoors.
Serpentine National Park remains a favourite destination for locals and visitors alike, with picnic facilities, walking trails and the iconic Serpentine Falls.
Whitby Falls is another great option, with the Whitby Falls Play Trail offering a scenic loop with rest points and picnic tables along the way.
In Jarrahdale, Gooralong Brook and the surrounding Jarrahdale Heritage Precinct provide a picturesque place to slow down, enjoy the historic townsite and combine a picnic with a walk through one of SJ's most distinctive heritage areas.

A few seasonal reminders
As the weather warms up:
- Snakes become more active, particularly in bushland areas and around properties.
- Magpies begin swooping while protecting their nests so be alert when walking in nesting areas.
- The Restricted Burning Period is approaching, making now a good time to prepare your property for the warmer months ahead.
