At Wanslea, our mission is to promote community, family, and individual development. By helping families to thrive, we’re working towards a healthier, safer, more inclusive Australia.
Wanslea was established in 1943 with the opening of Wanslea Hostel in Perth, this hostel provided a home for children who’s mothers were ill and fathers were away. In 1976 the first parenting support service, the Home Help and Family Support Service opened.
In 1985 Wanslea began offering cottage based residential care and foster care. In 1986 home care and family day care services commenced. In 2002 the Grandcare program launched delivering a suite of services for grandparents who are full-time carers of their grandchildren. In 2003 Leaving Care was established to assist young people who are leaving out of home care.
In 2005 Wanslea’s first mentaul health program for children was established, Children of Parents with a Mental Illness (COPMI). In 2007 Wanslea began offering outside of school hours care and in 2008 the first Early Learning and Development Centre opened. In 2014 Specialist Foster Care was established.
In 2019 Wanslea was appointed the Early Childhood Early Intervention NDIA Partner for WA. Today Wanslea offers early childhood education and care, early childhood intervention, parenting support, out of home care, grandparent career support, leaving care, mental health programs, school based programs, housing support and regional community development programs across Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
