Tonkin Highway Extension and Thomas Road Upgrade | Proposed Temporary Road Closure – Mundijong Road between Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street

In accordance with Section 3.50 of the Local Government Act 1995, notice is hereby given that the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is required to temporarily close Mundijong Road between Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street.

These changes will take effect from June 2026 to December 2026 as part of the Tonkin Highway Extension and Thomas Road Upgrade (THETRU) Project and associated works.

Project Overview

As part of the THETRU Project, Tonkin Highway is being extended 14 kilometres from Thomas Road to South Western Highway as a four-lane dual carriageway. To enable realignment of Mundijong Road and construction of the new Tonkin Highway intersection, Mundijong Road will be temporarily closed between Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street. As part of these works, the permanent closure of the Lampiter Drive and Mundijong Road intersection is proposed to be implemented. 

Pure Steel Lane and Adonis Street will remain open during these works. Access to Lampiter Drive will be via Dairy Link.

This closure is intended to: 

  • enhance road safety;
  • improve long-term traffic efficiency; and
  • support the functionality of the future road network.

Bushfire safety and emergency response are key considerations in the planning process. The project team is working closely with the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to ensure emergency access routes are maintained during construction and are incorporated into the final road design.
