Native tree planting to green Abernethy Road

Published on Thursday, 18 June 2026 at 1:00:00 PM

The planting will take place between Warrington Road and Soldiers Road, near Salvado Catholic College and Byford Secondary College, with new trees planned for sections of the road verge and median.

The project will support the Shire’s ongoing efforts to increase canopy cover, improve the look and feel of local streets, and create more comfortable public spaces for residents, pedestrians and road users.

The new trees will help provide future shade, soften the streetscape and contribute to a greener environment as Byford continues to grow.

The main planting works near Salvado Catholic College and Byford Secondary College have been scheduled during the school holidays to help minimise disruption around the schools.

Works will take place on the following dates:

Monday 22 June – Friday 26 June, 9am–2pm

Crews will check underground services and confirm planting locations before the trees go in.

Monday 6 July – Friday 10 July, 7am–5pm

Crews will prepare the median strip and plant trees.

Monday 13 July – Friday 17 July, 7am–5pm

Crews will plant trees along the verges.

Some minor delays may occur while these works are underway. Road users are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic controllers.
