The Minister for Local Government and Youth, the Hon Hannah Beazley MLA, met with the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale's Junior Council at this month's session to discuss leadership, community representation and the role of government.

The theme for this month's session was 'representing people and making sure everyone's voice is heard'. Junior Councillors heard directly from the Minister about how Local and State Government work together and the important role played by local government in the community.

Mr Hugh Jones MLA, Member for Darling Ranges, joined the discussion, along with Shire President Rob Coales, Councillor Matthew Scott, incoming Interim CEO Frazer Sullivan and Youth Advisory Council representative Om Sharma. 

Students were divided into small groups and participated in a fast-paced Q&A session. Each group had three minutes at each table to ask an adult questions before rotating to the next table, ensuring that every student had the opportunity to engage with a range of perspectives.

Those who attended the session were impressed with the Junior Councillors' enthusiasm and insightfulness.

Council is proud to support the Junior Council program, which continues to play an important role in developing confidence, leadership skills and a deeper understanding of civic responsibility among local young people. 

The Shire thanks Minister Beazley for taking the time to meet with the Junior Council and inspire our young leaders as they continue their leadership journey.
