Local heroes celebrated at the 2025 Emergency Services Awards Night

The outstanding contributions of the Shire’s emergency services volunteers was recognised at the annual Emergency Services Awards Night, held on Friday 13 June at Mardella Meadows.

The event brought together members of the volunteer bush fire brigades and their families, State Emergency Service (SES), Shire representatives, DFES officers, and local members of parliament to celebrate the commitment and achievements of those who give their time to protect the Serpentine Jarrahdale community.

Shire President Rob Coales said the awards ceremony was a meaningful opportunity to recognise the courage and dedication of the Shire’s emergency services volunteers.

“We live in an area where extreme events — like bushfires and severe storms — are always a possibility, which is why our volunteers are an integral part of the Shire,” President Coales said.

“Over the past 12 months, our volunteer brigades and SES members responded to more than 310 incidents in and outside the Shire.

“Their service not only protects lives and properties but also strengthens our community’s awareness and resilience. We’re so grateful for the time, effort and care they give so selflessly,” President Coales continued.

“I also want to extend my gratitude to their families and friends whose support, patience, and encouragement helps our volunteers do what they do.

“The annual Awards Night is our opportunity to say thank you and to celebrate the volunteers. This night is for you.”

Among the award recipients was Robert Fawcett from the Emergency Support Brigade who was recognised for more than half a century of service, receiving a 55-year clasp on his National Medal.
